Privacy Policy
Effective date: 14 June 2026 Last updated: 29 July 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Budget Tamer (the "app", "we", "us") handles your information. Contact us any time at support@budgettamer.com.
The short version
Budget Tamer is a personal-finance app that runs entirely on your device. We do not have a server that stores your data. We do not have user accounts. We do not track you, show ads, run analytics, or sell your information. Your financial data never leaves your phone unless you choose to back it up to your own Google Drive.
Who we are
Budget Tamer is an independently developed mobile budgeting app. For any privacy question or request, email support@budgettamer.com. Because we do not collect or store your personal data on any server, we act only as the provider of software that runs on your own device.
What data the app stores (all on your device)
Everything you enter into Budget Tamer is stored in a private database on your device only. This includes:
- Transactions, amounts, dates, and notes
- Accounts ("wallets") and their balances
- Categories, payees, and labels
- Budgets, savings goals, and debts
- Subscriptions and recurring transactions
- Inventory items and warranty records
- Reusable transaction templates
- Attachments you add (for example, receipt images or files)
- Custom icons and icon packs you import
- App settings
This data lives in the app's private storage. It is not transmitted to us, and we have no ability to read it. There is no Budget Tamer cloud, no Budget Tamer login, and no Budget Tamer account.
What we do not do
- We do not collect personal information on any server we control.
- We do not use Firebase, Google Analytics, or any analytics or telemetry SDK.
- We do not display advertising or use ad networks.
- We do not embed third-party trackers or advertising identifiers.
- We do not build user profiles or perform behavioural profiling.
- We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with anyone.
Network connections the app makes
Budget Tamer is built to work offline. It makes only the following network connections, and none of them send your financial data to us:
-
Currency exchange rates (optional, automatic). To convert between currencies, the app downloads public exchange-rate data from a public open-source currency API (jsDelivr CDN / currency-api). The app sends only a three-letter currency code (for example,
usd) in the request URL. No personal or financial data is sent. If you only use one currency or are offline, this can be skipped. -
App-integrity / anti-piracy check (Android). To deter piracy, Budget Tamer may verify that it is a genuine, unmodified copy installed from Google Play, using the Google Play Integrity API. When this check runs, the app obtains a signed attestation token from Google and sends it, with a random nonce, to a small stateless Cloudflare Worker we operate. The Worker asks Google whether the token is valid and returns only a yes/no result. The token is a device/app attestation — it contains no Budget Tamer account, no transactions, and no financial data. The Worker stores nothing. This check exists solely to deter piracy.
-
Google Drive backup (optional, only if you turn it on). If you choose to back up your data, the app uses Google Sign-In so you can save a backup file to your own Google Drive account. The backup is a copy of your on-device database and is stored in your Google account under your control; we never receive it and cannot access it. You can delete it from your Google Drive at any time. We request only the Drive access needed to write and read your backup files.
-
Local-network ("MCP") bridge (optional, only if you turn it on). The app includes an optional bridge that lets an AI assistant on your own local network read — and, where you enable it, add — entries in your budget. It is off by default, runs only while you have it open, requires a secret token you generate, and is reachable only from devices on your local network — never from the public internet. Any data shared, and anything it adds, stays on your device and involves only the assistant you pair with it; nothing is sent to us. Leave it off if you don't use this feature.
Third-party services
| Service | Role | What is shared |
|---|---|---|
| jsDelivr CDN / currency-api (open source) | Public exchange-rate data | A currency code only; no personal data |
| Google Play Integrity API | Anti-piracy app attestation | A signed device/app token; no financial data |
| Google Drive (via Google Sign-In) | Optional backup to your account | Your backup file, stored in your Google account |
Your use of Google services is also governed by Google's own Privacy Policy.
How to delete your data
Because your data is stored only on your device:
- Delete individual records inside the app at any time.
- Delete everything by uninstalling the app, which removes its local database.
- Delete backups by removing the backup files from your own Google Drive (and any local backup folder you chose).
We hold no copy of your data, so there is nothing for us to delete on your behalf.
Your rights
We designed Budget Tamer so that you already hold all of your data directly. The following rights still apply where the law grants them.
If you are in the EU/EEA or UK (GDPR / UK GDPR): You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, and port your personal data, and to object to processing. Because your data is stored locally on your device and not on our servers, you can already exercise these rights yourself directly within the app (view, edit, export via backup, and delete). If you believe we hold any personal data about you, email support@budgettamer.com. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
If you are in California (CCPA/CPRA): You have the right to know what personal information is collected, to delete it, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not collect personal information on our servers, and we do not sell or share personal information. There is therefore no sale or sharing to opt out of.
Children's privacy
Budget Tamer is a general-purpose budgeting tool and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the app stores data only on the user's own device and we operate no server-side data collection, no personal data is gathered by us from any user, including children.
Security
Your data is held in the app's private, OS-protected storage on your device. A backup you create is a copy of that database, saved to a location you choose — your own Google Drive or a local folder you pick — and stays under your control. Because a backup is a readable copy of your data, keep it somewhere you trust. As with any software, keeping your device and operating system up to date is the best protection.
Separately, Android may back up this app's data automatically as part of its own system-wide backup, if you have that turned on for your device. This is a feature of Android, not something the app requests or controls: the copy goes to your own Google account, and on Android 9 and later it is encrypted with a key derived from your device's screen lock, so Google cannot read it. We never receive it. You can turn it off for this app, or for your device entirely, in your Android system backup settings.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above and post the revised version at this URL. Material changes will be reflected here before they take effect.
